Why buy coffee tables online from us?

Coffee tables are an essential part of any living room, yet they are often added as an afterthought. With so many more interesting design choices to make such as sofas, cushions and lighting, the coffee table sometimes gets forgotten until right at the end of the decorating process. Given that the it takes centre stage in almost any room it happens to be in, it’s super important to find one that not only compliments the style of room you are adding it to, but that is ideal for the functions that will be required of it.

Choosing the right coffee table can be a tricky business so we’ve put together a list of things for you to think about before you start browsing.

What function will it serve?
First and foremost, think about the function you want your table to serve. If the room is a busy one with kids, pets and visitors frequenting often then the table will likely get a bit of wear and tear. If this is the case then a sturdy wooden coffee table might be the best option. If however, the room is not quite so rowdy and you will be entertaining guests or sitting down to a quiet night of telly, then something more elegant and sophisticated like a glass round table might be a better idea.

Choosing the material to suit your home
Following on from above, the material is an important thing to consider. If you have small kids then we suggest you steer clear of glass as the edges can be sharp and dangerous to little people. Wood is an excellent alternative but can also be quite pricey. If you are concerned about budget then tables made from treated wicker, reed or bamboo are a good alternative to wood or timber tables.

How big a table should you get?
When choosing the size, there are generally three things you need to keep in mind:

  • Length: It’s super important to get the dimensions right. You don’t want to buy a table that is too small in proportion to the surrounding furniture. It looks awkward and it takes away from the functional aspect of a table. A good rule to keep in mind for the length is that the table should one-half to two-thirds the length of the sofa
  • Height: The general rule in styling is that your coffee table should be about the same height as your sofas seat. This makes it both practical for people to use and it balances out the proportions of the furniture. Having said that, there is a growing trend for people to buy tables that are low to the ground. While these can look good, keep in mind how annoying it might be for you (and your guests) to have to bend down to pick up your coffee mug from the table each time you want a sip!
  • Width: The last thing to consider is the width. It’s best to choose one that leaves about two to three feet between the surrounding furniture to allow people to move about easily. There is nothing more annoying than having to slide in and out of a spot and it also increases the chance of accidents and spills which is no good for anyone!

What shape is best for you?
Lastly, do you want a round or rectangle table? Rectangles are generally the standard because they fill the space so nicely, creating balance within the room. However round tables are best for groups of people as they create a more inclusive space allowing everyone to be a part of the same conversation. If you entertain frequently then a round or oval shaped table might be a better option.

Tips for buying coffee tables online
Buying furniture online is becoming more and more popular because you can do it from the comfort of your own home, and you can actually sit in the intended room and consider how the table will look with all the furniture as well as taking the necessary measurements to ensure it will fit. Having said that, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you jump on your laptop and start browsing.

First and foremost, make sure you check the shipping policy of the online store you are browsing. These are large bulky items and so shipping can often add a bit of money to the actual price. Make sure you know what you are up for before you get to the checkout page so you don’t get a nasty surprise. Next, make sure you check the refunds and returns policy of the store. As you won’t be able to physically see or touch the item until it arrives in your home, you want to make sure that you can get a refund or exchange is you aren’t 100% happy with it. Lastly, check the security of the website you are purchasing from. The easiest way to do this is to see if the company has an SSL certificate as this means they are protecting the privacy of your details.

Happy shopping!
